macOS Dictation works in Gmail’s compose field. Click into the body, press the shortcut (Fn twice on recent Macs), and speak. It is already on your Mac and costs nothing.
It stops after about 30 seconds without speech. Automatic punctuation exists but can be uneven, and false starts remain in the transcript.

Dictate is our app. Hold a key, speak, and release to insert the punctuated text at your cursor. A polish step can remove fillers and false starts.
Dictate needs a connection. Audio travels over TLS, is transcribed, then discarded. Apple Dictation can process on-device for supported languages on Apple silicon.
These steps use a hold-to-talk key. Apple Dictation follows the same flow with a shortcut.

Open a compose window and click the body or subject line.
Step 02
Say the greeting, message, and signoff. The polish pass can clean up fillers and false starts.
Step 03
Review names and details, then send.
